ENDURING CONNECTIONS TO SPACE.

Concept Design

An in - depth study into site, contextual opportunities, limitations, and introduced influences that will affect early planning and design development. At this stage, a developed design brief is key to navigating an initial response. Outcomes are presented as a mixed - media investigation in plan, 3D mass, sketch elevation or animation.

01.

Design Development

An opportunity to make small adjustments to the Concept Design based on your feedback. At this stage planning, form, materiality, and fixtures are all solidified.

02.

Planning Approvals

Development Application (DA) / Complying Development (CDC)

We are well versed in interpreting planning controls, collaborating with council and external consultants, and coordination of all relevant documentation to achieve approval.

03.

Construction Documentation

Our highly detailed documentation packages ensure a macro to micro level of resolution, centred around buildability.
3D visualisation, assembly detailing and scheduling of all fixtures / finishes / equipment are a standard part of our hand over set for Tender.

04.

Tender

During this stage we facilitate handover to a select few contractors for detailed construction pricing. Once tenders are received, a full pricing review is completed and final contractor selection is made.

05.

Construction Administration

Now you're building! Our involvement at this stage is to maintain constant, detailed communication with the contractor weekly (sometimes daily) to ensure the design is realised holistically. We conduct regular site visits and keep check on all aspects of the signed contract between yourself and the contractor.
Site notes and progress updates are clear, detailed and accessible online.

“Robert was an absolute professional and a pleasure to deal with. His designs for our studio apartment were incredibly innovative, making very clever use of what was a small space. We were incredibly excited about the design we finally chose and fine tuned to exactly suit our needs. He took total control of the entire project for us liaising with all necessary authorities including the Strata company and always reported back to us in a very timely fashion. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Ro Workshop.”

Marc and Carey, Darlinghurst

"We have worked with Rob for a number of years on a project that had heritage constraints and experienced a number of road blocks from local council. Rob dealt with all the challenges in a timely, precise and effective manner. Rob's designs and drawings maximised a small plot of land and really demonstrated features that were impressive and functional for family living. Rob worked tirelessly on our behalf to engage suitable suppliers and builders that suited our project style and budget"

James and Gill, Randwick

“A sincere thank you for all your work in creating amazing new spaces within our existing house. Rob’s strategic vision of what was possible has transformed our home. We love it! From the initial meeting we were impressed by the professionalism, attention to detail and support that was provided during the entire process. Thank you, thank you!”

Terrace House

Gadigal Country

Classically defined interior alterations and additions to a stately Heritage Terrace.

Pique

Gadigal Country

A joyous sensitive insertion to an existing Heritage Terrace to improve the amenity of the existing east - facing wing. Elaborating on the predominant “lean - to” pattern of development, the addition accommodates a bathroom, lightwell and study space adjoining a master bedroom. It aims to further promote healthy solar access and cross - ventilation.

4 x 4

Gadigal Country

Investigative design to reinterpret a 16 sqm. studio apartment interior to accommodate short stay or rental. The bed / snug presented as a permanent installation upon client request, resulting in a unique footprint that increased amenity while maintaining solar and visual connection through joinery apertures and screening.

Kinship

Gadigal Country

An exercise in maximising spatial potential within a typical eastern suburbs semi - detached typology. A contemporary rear addition adopting a hardwood screened cloak to the first floor, harmonising with the surrounding tree lined streetscape.

Featuring a conservative floorplate, alternative strategies were investigated to create hierarchy and layered vertical character along an open plan. The ceiling internally becomes a primary focal point - a reinterpretation of a modern vault and coffer over the kitchen and living. This theme is extended to the first floor where ceiling and wall unite, drawing down to distinctly define the family study and providing partial enclosure and flexible overhead shelving.
